Computer Buying Tips
|
|
In this computer buying tips article I will discuss items you
must have, and items you may want. It is important when
you go shopping for a new PC |
that you have an idea of what you MUST
do, compared to things you would like to do.
An example would be, you have to be able
to use word processing software, and online bill pay,
but you may WANT to be able to download music, play
games ETC.
The reason these questions and computer
buying tips are important
is because you don’t want to buy something that doesn’t
met your needs. It is absolutely imperative that you
have some form of GOOD Internet security software.
Typically surfing the internet without an
anti-virus will infect your computer in about 12
minutes, not to mention identity theft. Last year about
10,000 people in the United States where victims of
identity theft.
All from using their computer without the
proper protection. Most new computers come with a trial
version, and you must purchase the full version after
30-90 days. The major retail chains will offer to set-up
your new PC and install the software for a fee.
How's that for computer buying tips?
What do you need?
Computers today are much faster than ones
in the past. Today it isn’t about the processor speed as
much as it is memory and hard drive space, and
multimedia ability.
What does this mean to you? Regardless of
what your plans are for your new computer memory is a
big factor. The more you have the happier you will be.
Having a lot of memory will allow you to
open programs faster, have more programs open at once,
and your system will be more stable.
When it comes to hard drive space this
too is important. If all you’re doing is word processing
and web surfing, then a large hard drive is not
important. However, if you’re going to download music,
or watch movies then it is extremely important.
Keep in mind with these computer buying
tips, that it is recommended to
keep at least 40% of your hard drive free or your
computer could start slowing down. If your new computer
has an 80 Gigabyte hard drive about 10 gigabytes goes
for the operating system and bundled software, plus
whatever software you install.
That leaves about 30 gigabytes for music
or movies. A standard two hour movie will take about 4
gigabytes of space, 8 movies later your hard drive is
full and your computer is slowing down. It is a lot less
expensive to buy a new computer with a large hard drive
then to add or change the hard drive later.
Multi Media computer buying tips
There is a new breed of computer on the
market today. They care called Media Center systems.
What is means is that you can store your DVD collection
and your CD collection on your computer and hook the
computer up to you Audio/Video System.
That way when you want to watch a movie
or listen to a CD, you just browse thru your computer
and hit play. Beware, not all Media Centers are created
equal. Some will display the Media Center Software, but
lack the inputs and outputs to utilize it. If this is
the type of computer you want, you must look for or ask
the salesperson if it has it.
